“Shazam!” held a two-week early preview screening this weekend with Fandango’s 1,200 screen one night only run on Saturday night making $3.3 million.
That tops similar early preview hauls of films like “Aquaman” ($2.9 million), “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” ($2.6 million) and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” ($1.8 million).
That’s a promising start for the film with the movie also getting its first Rotten Tomatoes score yesterday with a 95% (7.65/10) rating from 56 reviews counted. Said reviews have highly praised Zachary Levi and Jack Dylan Grazer’s performances and the film’s light, breezy, joyous and very family friendly tone whilst being less enthused with the villain and the reliance on cliches.
“Shazam!” is apparently tracking for an opening weekend somewhere around $40-50 million, though with the way other films have been overperforming of late that number is expected to go up.
