Sony Pictures has set “Night at the Museum” and “Real Steel” director Shawn Levy to direct the long-awaited live-action feature film adaptation of the PlayStation video game series “Uncharted”.
Joe Carnahan, who wrote the most recent script draft, had an eye to direct, but has moved over to helming the studio’s “Bad Boys For Life”. David O. Russell and Neil Burger have been previously attached to direct the “Uncharted” film at various points.
The game series follows Nathan Drake as he seeks lost civilizations and their treasures with the help of journalist Elena Fisher and mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan. A fourth and final game in the series was released earlier this year and is likely to battle with “Overwatch” for ‘Game of the Year’ honors.
Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad are producing. Levy most recently served as producer on Netflix’s “Stranger Things” and Denis Villeneuve’s “Arrival”.
