Rumors sprang up a while back that William Shatner’s Captain Kirk would make an appearance alongside his successor in the role Chris Pine in this year’s “Star Trek Beyond,” rumors quickly shot down at the time – especially with the project’s major behind-the-scenes overhaul.
Speaking with SFX Magazine this week about a potential appearance in the movie, Shatner now says the rumor never had any truth to it:
“There was never a conversation. It would have been interesting to see what their fertile imaginations could have done with somebody who is twenty years older than when Captain Kirk died [in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations] and how they would have explained the difference in appearance.
But that never came up. I’m sure they must have thought of it one time or another, but I never had a substantial conversation about replaying the role.”
“Star Trek Beyond” is set to open July 22nd, just ahead of the half-century anniversary of the franchise on September 8th.
