Shannon, Kitsch To Topline Waco TV Series

Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch are set to star in a mini-series about the 1993 Branch Davidian siege in Waco, Texas which The Weinstein Company is developing.

Brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, the director/writer/producer duo behind thrillers like the Owen Wilson-led “No Escape,” the horror tale “As Above, So Below” and the “Quarantine” remake, will pen the series and with the former directing.

Shannon will play lead FBI negotiator Gary Noesner, while Kitsch will play the religious group’s notorious leader David Koresh. The 51-day siege between the FBI, ATF and Koresh’s sect will be told from several perspectives of those involved on both sides of the conflict.

David Thibodeau’s “A Place Called Waco” and Noesner’s own “Sinful Messiah” biographies will serve as the source material for the adaptation which Shannon and Kitsch will also executive produce.

TWC expects to shop the series around to networks starting next month.
