Seth Gordon (“Horrible Bosses,” “King of Kong”) is negotiations to direct the “Baywatch” movie for :aramount Pictures.
A big screen take on the iconic 1990s television series about California lifeguards, Dwayne Johnson is attached to star in the project which has been in the works for over a decade as the studio has tried to find the right tone for it.
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift penned the most recent draft which is said to be akin to the “21 Jump Street” franchise in terms of being an action comedy that fondly lampoons its source material.
Johnson will play a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon.
Filming is slated to begin early next year and Johnson will produce. It’s hoped original cast members like David Hasselhoff, Pam Anderson, Yasmin Bleeth, Carmen Electra and David Chokachi will return for appearances in the film.
