“The Great Beauty” star Toni Servillo has been cast to play Italian media tycoon-turned-prime minister Silvio Berlusconi in Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino’s new Italian-language film “Loro” about the public figure and his inner circle.
Berlusconi is gradually exiting Italy’s political arena after more than two decades in the spotlight during which he served four times as prime minister. Indigo Film is producing the project which Sorrentino is finishing the screenplay for.
Talks are underway with several potential partners, one of which may be Amazon. Further casting is underway and shooting to kick off in Italy this Summer.
Sorrentino recently did the first season of “The Young Pope” for Sky and HBO and has written the screenplays for a second season.
