Peter Jackson is set to reteam with his “King Kong” and “Lord of the Rings” performance-capture star Andy Serkis for DreamWorks’ Tintin trilogy reports the trades.
Steven Spielberg and Jackson will each helm at least one of the three films, though the specific lineup is unknown. The films will chronicle the adventures of Tintin, a junior reporter who will follow stories even though he often finds his own life in jeopardy.
The studio was mum on which character or characters the actor will play but said it will not be the titular Tintin. It is generally thought he will play the role of Tintin’s friend Captain Haddock, the whiskey drinking temperamental sea captain prone to uttering the phrase ‘blistering barnacles’ a lot.
It’s not known as yet which of the two dozen or so stories that Herge penned will be used for the films, though acclaimed British scribe Steven Moffat (TV’s “Jekyll,” “Doctor Who”) is adapting.
The films will be produced in full digital 3-D using performance capture technology. Principal photography on the first film is scheduled to begin in September.
