Senator Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to the two-part biopic “Public Enemy No. 1” says The Hollywood Reporter.
The $80 million Jean-Francois Richet-directed, French dual production details the life of infamous French criminal Jacques Mesrine (Vincent Cassel). Mesrine returned from fighting in Algeria in the late ’50s to become a murderous disguise artist in North America and France during the ’60s and ’70s.
Gerard Depardieu, Mathieu Amalric, Ludivine Sagnier, Gerard Lanvin, Cecile de France, Samuel Le Bihan and Olivier Gourmet also star. The two completed films are presently in post-production in Paris.
The first film is expected to be released later this year in the US, with the second following in early 2009.
