Sela Ward is set to play President Lanford, the current President of the United States, in Roland Emmerich’s upcoming “Independence Day” sequel.
The story this time around reportedly sees the nations of Earth collaborate using recovered alien technology to develop a defense program to protect the planet from invading aliens.
Ward previously worked with Emmerich on “The Day After Tomorrow” and was last seen on screen last year in David Fincher’s “Gone Girl”. Ward joins a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
The film is targeting a May start of filming date ahead of a June 24th 2016 release. Dean Devlin, James Vanderbilt, James A Woods, Nicolas Wright and Harald Kloser will produce.
