Segel, Blunt Join “Gulliver’s Travels”

Jason Segel (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) is in negotiations while Emily Blunt has been offered to join the new film based on Jonathan Swift’s classic tale “Gulliver’s Travels” for 20th Century Fox says the trades.

This modern re-imagining of the story has free-spirited travel writer Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black), on assignment to the Bermuda Triangle, washes ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput which is home to a population of industrious yet tiny people.

Blunt would play the island’s princess and the love interest of Horatio, Segel’s character, a Lilliputian who befriends Gulliver.

Blunt involvement depends upon her schedule with her role as the Black Widow in “Iron Man 2.” Dates are being worked out so that she can be a part of both projects, but if they can’t it’s likely she’ll stick with ‘Travels’ over the “Iron Man” sequel due to a contract clause she has with Fox. Word as of yesterday however would seem to indicate that she could do both projects.

Rob Letterman is directing. Nicholas Stoller penned the screenplay with Joe Stillman.

John Davis and Ben Cooley are producing. Shooting begins in March.
