CBS Television Studios has optioned the rights to Thomas Mallon’s historical fiction novel “Watergate” with plans to develop a series adaptation.
Described as a limited series with a darkly comedic tone, the show tackle the events of the political break in and subsequent downfall of Richard Nixon’s presidency through the eyes of a collection of sevenn characters that weren’t as well known.
“Band of Brothers” screenwriter John Orloff is set to adapt and write the project for Touchy Feely Films with Paul Giamatti and Dan Carey producing. The project is reportedly being considered for premium and streaming networks such as CBS-owned Showtime and CBS All Access.
This follows on from reports the other day that Netflix, George Clooney and “Bridge of Spies” writer Matt Charman are developing an eight-part anthology event series about the 1970s scandal with a “Rashomon”-style POV shift.
