It’s a beloved book, and the first trailer for Ron Howard’s film adaptation of “In the Heart of the Sea” was one of the best trailers of the year. It showed a promise of a more stylised take than you’d expect from Howard, the lush visuals more akin to old oil paintings and myths of sea-faring than expected – though some of the effects looked a tad dodgy.
The new second trailer is about on par with the effects looking decidedly better this time around. The trailer also takes a bit more time unfolding the story of the Essex, the whaling ship sunk by one of the giant beasts and how the crew were forced onto whaling boats and ultimately resorted to an act of cannibalism to survive. The tale inspired Herman Melville to pen “Moby Dick”.
