TBS has renewed its first-year comedies “People of Earth” and “Search Party” with both shows set to get ten-episode second seasons in 2017.
Produced by Conan O’Brien and Greg Daniels, “People of Earth” follows a skeptical journalist (Wyatt Cenac) who reluctantly joins a support group for alien abductees. It is currently averaging 4.3 million viewers per episode across all platforms.
Alia Shawkat leads the dark comedy “Search Party” about four self-absorbed twenty-somethings who become involved in an ominous mystery when a former college acquaintance suddenly vanishes.
Michael Showalter (“Wet Hot American Summer”) serves as executive producer on “Search Party” which aired its entire first season over the Thanksgiving holiday. The weeklong rollout strategy drew 1.1 million viewers per episode across all platforms over five days.
They join fellow returnees “Angie Tribeca,” “The Detour,” “Wrecked and “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” which have all been renewed and will all return in 2017.
They aren’t the only renewal orders handed out today though as IFC have given a second season order for its comedy “Stan Against Evil”. John C. McGinley and Janet Varney star in the show about a disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town forced into retirement. He ends up fighting a plague of unleashed demons with his female successor.
Launching on Halloween weekend, the show had one of IFC’s most successful original series debuts while DVR usage more than doubled the live audience.
