FOX’s action procedural series “Lethal Weapon” has been saved with “American Pie” star Seann William Scott set to star as the co-lead opposite Damon Wayans on the series.
Scott takes over for original co-lead Clayne Crawford whose option for next season will not be picked up by producer Warner Bros. TV after on-set behavior issues. With Scott’s casting, the series has been renewed just a day ahead of FOX’s upfront presentation.
Marking his first series regular role, Scott will play a new character who will be partnered with Wayans’ Murtaugh. The recent second season finale saw Crawford’s Riggs, planning to move back to Texas, get shot in the chest.
The series was considered a slam dunk for a renewal, thanks to an average 8.7 million multi-platform audience, until the behind-the-scenes problems involving Crawford put it all in jeopardy. Scott emerged as a choice earlier this week and was sealed after he met with Wayans over the weekend.
