One of the most famous memes about an actor in recent years has been about the number of times Sean Bean has died on screen. At one point, someone made a reel showing off the various ways his characters have met their demise – a clip which quickly became a viral sensation.
Now out doing promotion on TNT’s “Legends,” the actor has spoken with The Radio Times about being known as a guy who dies frequently on the screen. Turns out he’s mostly amused by it all:
“I have died quite a few times to be fair. I’ve seen that reel of clips – it sounds a bit macabre, but I watched that back, and I’d forgotten some of the scenes I’d died in… (I don’t) take it to heart… For some reason, the parts I play, like Boromir or Ned Stark, have a life online long afterwards. I keep seeing, what do you call them – memes? ‘One does not simply ask for a drink’ instead of ‘One does not simply walk into Mordor’ – that sort of thing. They’ll probably be my unintended legacy.”
Bean has died approximately twenty five times on film and TV ranging in ways from beheadings to being smothered, impaled and even thrown of a cliff by a cattle stampede. More recently he’s survived his various on screen appearances in films like “Jupiter Ascending,” “Pixels” and “The Martian” this year.
