Sean Bean is set to star in the six-part period crime drama series “The Frankenstein Chronicles” for Rainmark Films and British network ITV. The story reimagines Mary Shelley’s classic story as a gruesome mystery procedural.
Set in 1827 London, Bean plays police inspector John Marlott who makes a shocking discovery involving a corpse washed up on the banks of the Thames – a corpse assembled from mutilated body parts.
Marlott is tasked by the British Home Secretary with tracking the perpetrator of this heinous crime. His investigations leads him through the darkest corners of Regency London – prostitution, drug smuggling, bodysnatching, contract killings, and ultimately something far more horrific than he could have imagined.
Director/writer Benjamin Ross (“RKO 281,” “The Young Poisoner’s Handbook”) and writer Barry Langford (“Torte Bluma”) will serve in those capacities on the project which marks the first original drama of ITV’s subscription channel ITV Encore.
David Tanner (“Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight”) and Carol Moorhead (“Line Of Duty”) will produce, Tracey Scoffield (“Dirty Pretty Things”) and Frank Doelger (“Game Of Thrones”) will executive produce. Filming begins in Northern Ireland in January.
