“Se7en” Scribe Adapts “Lone Wolf and Cub”

“Se7en” and “Sleepy Hollow” scribe Andrew Kevin Walker and “Fast Five” director Justin Lin are teaming for “Lone Wolf and Cub,” the upcoming new adaptation of Kazuo Koike’s seminal 1970 manga title at Paramount Pictures, Perfect Storm and Kamala Films.

Walker has just come onboard to pen the script for the project which Lin has been attached to produce since 2012 and is now looking to direct as well. Marissa McMahon will also produce.

The story follows a shogun’s executioner named Itto Ogami, who starts on a path of revenge after his wife and the rest of his house is murdered by a nasty clan, leaving only his infant son alive.

Itto is joined on this quest by his son, Daigoro, who, as he grows up, is trained to be a fearsome warrior and joins him as a father-son team of assassins for hire.

The revenge story ultimately spanned close to 9,000 pages and was hugely influential in Japanese pop culture. Attempts have been made to turn it into a Hollywood film since 2003 with Darren Aronofsky attached at one point.
