Daughter of Smoke & Bone
Stuart Beattie (“Collateral,” “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”) is set to adapt the screenplay for the film adaptation of Laini Taylor’s fantasy adventure “Daughter of Smoke & Bone” at Universal.

Set in the tangled lanes of Prague, a mysterious young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war. A star-crossed romance and the search for the truth about her past soon take over her life. [Source: THR]

Shotgun Lovesongs
Fox Searchlight has acquired film rights to Nickolas Butler’s debut novel “Shotgun Lovesongs”. The story follows the friendship between four men in their early 30s who live near one another in the same Wisconsin town where they grew up.

Some in the quartet have left while others have not, and they are just now coming into their own as husbands and fathers with each hoping to finally find real purchase in the world. Brad Desch will write the script and Sherryl Clark will produce. [Source: Deadline]

Universal Pictures has acquired an untitled pitch from up-and-coming screenwriter Josh Friedlander.
