Script News: Ring 3D, Chaos, One, Moonfall

The Ring 3D
Paramount is in talks with Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”) to pen the next draft of “The Ring 3D,” the third chapter in the horror franchise. Goldsman recently did a rewrite of “Insurgent,” the upcoming sequel to “Divergent”. He would take over from David Loucka who penned the earlier draft of the F. Javier Gutierrez-directed sequel in which the infamous video tape strikes terror yet again.

Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go
Jamie Linden (“We Are Marshall,” “Dear John”) is set to pen the screenplay for Lionsgate’s potential franchise starter “Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go” based on the 2008 Patrick Ness novel. Linden takes over from Charlie Kaufman who originally adapted the screenplay, while Robert Zemeckis remains attached to direct.

Set in a dystopian world where all living creatures can hear each other’s thoughts, the story follows the only boy in a town of men who discovers something awful hidden from him and is forced to flee with only his dog.

One Plus One
New Line Cinema has scored the film rights to Jojo Moyes’ best-selling novel “One Plus One” with Moyes set to pen the feature adaptation.

The story follows a single mother with two kids, one being bullied and the other a math whiz. The latter is presented with a once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunity on the other side of the country, so they set out on a road trip that changes their lives.

David Weil has sold his spec script “Moonfall” to indie producer Audax. The story centers on an FBI agent who travels to a moon colony to investigate its very first death. Weil is the writer behind Warners upcoming seven film franchise adaptation of “The Arabian Nights”.

The Three Tenors
Lionsgate has picked up Johnny Rosenthal’s opera-themed ensemble comedy spec script “The Three Tenors” and set Patrick Aiello as producer. The story traces the ups and downs of a fictional trio of internationally beloved operatic superstars.
