A couple of interesting script deals have gone down this week.
New Regency has picked up the movie rights to Swedish author Dan Sehlberg’s international thriller “Mona” says THR.
The story sees a Swedish scientist who invents a device that allows disabled people to surf the web with the power of thought. It runs afoul a virus created by a revenge-seeking terrorist, and the man races against time to save his wife.
Warners has picked up the film rights to Erin McCahan’s upcoming young-adult novel “Cool, Sweet, Hot, Love” says Deadline.
The story follows a female teenage genius and linguistics lover who confronts adults and peers about what those titular words mean to them.
Deadline also reports that Black Bear Pictures will finance the true story feature “Gold” based on a script by Patrick Massett & John Zinman.
The story deals with the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal in which vast amounts of gold were reportedly discovered in the Indonesian jungle. Paul Haggis, amongst others, will produce.
Finally “Rise of the Guardians scribe David Lindsay-Abaire has confirmed to STYD he’s writing the script for the ‘Poltergeist’ remake.
The remake has been in development at MGM for years and gone through multiple writers. It’s expected Lindsay-Abaire is starting from scratch.
