Script News: Bergdahl, Chazelle, Leviathan, Go

Untitled Bowe Bergdahl Project
“Zero Dark Thirty” director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal are re-teaming again for a new project at Annapurna Pictures concentrating on recently released American P.O.W. Bowe Bergdahl. The pair are reportedly taking their time to figure out how this could work as a film.

They have competition though as Fox Searchlight has bought a Rolling Stone article about the case and is planning a rival project – one with “Little Children” director Todd Field involved.

Untitled Chazelle Project
20th Century Fox has acquired an untitled pitch from “Whiplash” writer/director Damien Chazelle. The project is described as a “high-concept and character-driven genre film” inspired by 1970s paranoia thrillers.

Story specifics are being kept secret. Shawn Levy will produce. Chazelle is expected to next direct “La La Land” with Emma Watson and Miles Teller.

Sony Pictures has acquired Cole Haddon’s sci-fi spec script “Leviathan” which Neal Moritz will produce. Details of the storyline are being kept under wraps. Haddon is the creator of NBC’s “Dracula” and BBC America’s upcoming “Nottingham”.

Never Let Go
Writer/director Howard J. Ford (“The Dead”) has set genre thriller “Never Let Go” as his next feature. Filming is set to begin in September in Morocco and other locations.

The story follows an American single mother on vacation in a beautiful but unfamiliar land who takes the law into her own hands when her child is abducted. Her political connections back in the U.S. also raise the stakes.
