Scribes: Woody, Shadows, Dancing

Woody Woodpecker
“Blades of Glory” and “Beavis And Butt-Head” scribes John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky have been hired to pen a script for an animated feature reboot of the “Woody Woodpecker” franchise.

The project is set up with “The Lorax” and “Despicable Me” producers Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures. [Source: Deadline]

The Weinstein Co. has sued “Scream” series writer-producer Kevin Williamson over rights to a film script called “Shadows”. Williamson was hired to write and produce “Scream 4” in 2009 but a dispute broke out.

The pair settled with TWC buying Williamson out of his “Scream 4” deal, part of that agreement was that he apparently relinquished control over several other projects including “Shadows”. Williamson is now claiming he still owns the “Shadows” property. [Source: THR, Esq]

Dirty Dancing
“Glee” and “American Horror Story” co-creator Brad Falchuk has been hired to rewrite Maria Maggenti’s screenplay for the “Dirty Dancing” reboot at Lionsgate.

The musical reimagining of the popular 1987 film will incorporate classic songs from the 1960’s, hits from the original film and brand new compositions. Kenny Ortega directs the film which is aiming for release July 2013. [Source: Variety]
