Scribe News: Pixels, Houdini, Sleeping

Tim Dowling (“Just Go With It”) has come onboard to re-write the script for “Pixels” at Sony Pictures and Happy Madison. Tim Herlihy penned the previous draft which is now being turned into more of a tentpole-esque action comedy along “Ghostbusters” lines.

Seth Gordon will executive produce and potentially direct this adaptation of writer-director Patrick Jean’s buzzed-about short film, which depicted popular 1980s video game characters attacking New York City. [Source: Variety]

“Chuck” co-creator Chris Fedak has come onboard to re-write the Mark Waters-directed, untitled Harry Houdini project setup at Walden Media. Brett Merryman penned the initial screenplay.

The story centers on an unsuspecting high schooler who finds himself in grave danger when he discovers a family secret leading back to the legendary illusionist. Using clues left through the centuries, he must race to uncover the greatest magical secret known to man. [Source: Heat Vision]

Sleeping Beauty
Producer Neal Moritz is moving forward with a contemporary comedic take on classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty that Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller will script.

In this version the male protagonist accidentally awakens Sleeping Beauty and finds that he can’t get rid of the lovestruck heroine. [Source: Heat Vision]
