Scott Rudin To Adapt Franzen’s “Freedom”

Producer Scott Rudin has picked up the film rights to Jonathan Franzen’s latest novel “Freedom” reports Deadline.

His first novel since his National Book Award winning “The Corrections” a decade ago, the story follows the slowly disintegrating relationship of Patty and Walter Berglund, described as “socially conscious college sweethearts who lose each other and their own moral compasses over the years to temptations both corporate and carnal”.

Rudin hasn’t locked in any writers or studio for the project, but did land the deal just before a cover story on Franzen appeared in the latest issue of Time magazine – the first living author to appear on the cover of the venerable mag since Stephen King a decade ago.
