“Flightplan” and “RED” director Robert Schwentke has come onboard Summit Entertainment’s “Divergent” franchise.
Schwentke is set to take directorial duties on “Insurgent,” the second film of the proposed trilogy based on Veronica Roth’s sci-fi novels. Akiva Goldsman is currently polishing the script based on a draft by Brian Duffield.
Due to the compressed production schedule of the series, which aims to release one film a year, the first film’s director Neil Burger could not helm the second film due to the overlapping schedules of the films.
Schwentke also helmed “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and most recently “R.I.P.D.”.
