It was a great day for female-led and produced comedy series on cable TV as three high-profile series all scored renewals.
Comedy Central used their TCA winter press tour panel to announced that they’ve renewed their comedy series “Inside Amy Schumer” for a fifth season and “Broad City” for both a fourth and fifth season. These come ahead of Schumer’s fourth season premiere in April and Broad City’s third season premiere in February.
At the same time, several of the team behind “Broad City” have scored the green light for a three-episode limited series titled “The Traveling Bong”. The story follows two cousins who discover a time traveling bong and ride high as they blaze through time. It will premiere April 20th.
Meanwhile, BET has renewed the Gabrielle Union-led series “Being Mary Jane” for a fourth season. The series has ranked as the No. 1 scripted cable series among black viewers in the 18-49 demographic and averages 2.54 million viewers in Live+3 results. Production will kick off in Atlanta later this year.
