School of Rock Becomes A Nickelodeon Series

Over a decade after the film was released, Nickelodeon has announced plans for a new kid-friendly series based on Richard Linklater’s music-themed comedy “School of Rock”.

Jack Black and Mike White starred in the 2003 original which followed a down-on-his-luck rocker who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school where he teaches his eccentric and overachieving students to both play and love rock ‘n’ roll. It went on to gross over $131 million worldwide.

Nickelodeon and Paramount TV will produce the show which has already secured a thirteen-episode straight-to-series pickup.

Jim and Steve Armogida will serve as writers, exec producers and showrunners. Linklater and producer Scott Rudin will return to executive produce the series.

Casting will be announced with production beginning this fall for a spring 2015 premiere. Andrew Lloyd Webber is also prepping a stage musical based on the film.
