Three major works of the 1980s and early 1990s are coming back to cinemas shortly for limited re-releases.
First up, the already reported on 1986 animated feature “The Transformers: The Movie” one-night-only re-release organised by FathomEvents.com is proving so popular that 300 additional movie theaters nationwide have been added to the run.
That brings the total up to 750 screens participating in the screening which is a collaboration between Fathom Events, Hasbro Studios, and Shout! Factory. The screening takes place on Thursday, September 27th.
Next up, IMAX has announced that Michael Jackson’s digitally re-mastered “Thriller 3D” will head to IMAX 3D theaters for the first time ever. The 14-minute short film will run for one week only in domestic IMAX theaters ahead of showings of Eli Roth’s “The House with a Clock in Its Walls” beginning September 21st.
Finally, Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List” is returning to cinemas to commemorate its 25th anniversary. The film has undergone a new digital remaster, overseen by the man himself, and will be released in 4K, Dolby Cinema and Dolby Atmos where available. The limited engagement will kick off on December 7th.
