Scarlett Johansson has lined up three new roles in quick succession to fit in before next year’s potential strike says The Hollywood Reporter.
First up is New Line Cinema’s ensemble comedy “He’s Just Not That Into You,” in which she’ll play a pilates instructor/aspiring singer who has an affair with a married man and hopes that he will leave his wife for her. Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Connolly, Justin Long, Ginnifer Goodwin and Drew Barrymore all star.
She’ll follow that up playing a dangerous femme fatale in “Will Eisner’s The Spirit,” an adaptation of the noir comic strip being directed by Frank Miller for Odd Lot Entertainment and Lionsgate. Gabriel Macht is playing the title character, a detective who fakes his own death in order to fight crime in Central City as the masked man known as the Spirit.
Johansson serves as Silk N. Floss, a sexy and intelligent secretary with a vindictive instinct that makes her the perfect accomplice to the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), an evil mastermind. Shooting on ‘Spirit’ will begin in October.
Finally, she will slip on a crown for the title role in “Mary Queen of Scots.” The period indie film, a love story based on the early life of the legendary queen (Johansson) that focuses on her relationship with the Earl of Bothwell and her rivalry with her half-brother James, is scheduled to go before cameras in March in the UK. Director John Curran (“The Painted Veil”) and has essentially revived the project which has been in years of development.
Johansson will next be seen this December opposite Natalie Portman and Eric Bana in the period piece “The Other Boleyn Girl.”
