Scarlett Johansson is in early talks to star in the drama “Reflective Light” for Focus Features with art photographer Gregory Crewdson to make his directorial debut on the film.
Based on the 2014 Carla Buckley novel “The Deepest Secret,” the story follows a teenage boy who suffers XP (a strong allergy to sunlight). Johansson would play his mother who is so devoted to her sons care that she has alienated the rest of their family.
She creates an oddly sustainable nocturnal lifestyle for him at the expense of her own well-being. When a neighborhood girl goes missing, the balance that kept them afloat begins to unravel.
Crewdson and Juliane Hiam co-wrote the script while Marc Platt and Jared LeBoff will produce. Filming aims to begin next year.
