Sarandon To Lead “Butterfly in the Typewriter”

Susan Sarandon, Thomas Mann and Diane Kruger are attached to star in the David DuBos-directed biopic “Butterfly in the Typewriter” which deals with the brief but extraordinary life of author John Kennedy Toole.

DuBos also penned this adaptation of the Cory MacLauchlin book about Toole (Mann) who, in 1964, wrote his iconic satirical novel “A Confederancy of Dunces”. After years of unsuccessful attempts to get it published, he fell into depression and committed suicide whilst still young, alone and unfulfilled.

His grieving mother Thelma (Sarandon) would not allow her son to be forgotten, and fought for over a decade to bring the novel to light. Kruger will play Patricia Rickels, a college professor who formed a close relationship with Toole. Finally published in 1980, Toole won a posthumous Pulitzer Prize.

Oley Sassone is producing the film which plans to begin production in May.
