Coming off the disastrous “Ghost in the Shell,” filmmaker Rupert Sanders is getting back in the saddle and is set to direct the Vietnam War film “The Things They Carried”.
The story follows a platoon of American soldiers fighting on the ground in the Vietnam War. The work is based on Tim O’Brien’s acclaimed collection of interconnected short stories, the author drawing on his own experiences as a soldier in the 23rd Infantry Division.
O’Brien wrote the work in response to what he considered ignorance surrounding the war, and the book became a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Scott B. Smith (“A Simple Plan,” “The Ruins”) penned the adaptation which David Zander will produce.
Sanders, who also helmed “Snow White and the Huntsman,” is currently working with casting director Carmen Cuba to find a young ensemble with filming to begin as early as this Summer on location in Vietnam.
