Samantha Barks, who played Eponine in the 2010 London production of “Les Miserables”, has scored the same role in Tom Hooper’s upcoming film adaptation for Universal Pictures reports Reuters.
The news will no doubt cause a sigh of relief amongst Les Mis fans as it quashes rumours that emerged a month ago linking singer Taylor Swift to the role. Backlash to the apparent casting was swift and strong – and notably down on the idea, A stark contrast to the generally good reception given to the announcements of the various other actors in the production.
Barks, who currently plays Nancy in a touring company of Mackintosh’s “Oliver!”, says “I can’t believe I’m going to play Eponine, a role so close to my heart, a role I played in the West End. It’s the happiest moment of my life.”
Rehearsals are about to get underway before shooting kicks off in March.
