Armando Iannucci’s adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” and the Syrian civil war documentary “For Sama” dominated the British Independent Film Awards on Sunday night.
“For Sama,” which follows a young mother’s experience of the war, won the top prize of best British independent film along with best documentary, best director and best editing.
“The Personal History of David Copperfield” won five awards including best supporting actor for Hugh Laurie, best screenplay, best casting, best costume design and best production design.
Josh O’Connor and Renee Zellweger took the top acting honors for “Only You” and “Judy” respectively, while Sam Adewunmi won best newcomer for “The Last Tree”. Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” took best international independent film, while Kristin Scott Thomas won the Richard Harris award celebrating an actor’s outstanding contribution to British film.
