Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Madden, Colin Firth and Mark Strong are all set to join “Skyfall” and “Road to Perdition” filmmaker Sam Mendes’ new World War I-themed film “1917” at Neal Street Productions, DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures.
George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman lead the film playing young British soldiers on a single day at the height of World War I. Andrew Scott, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan and Claire Duburcq have also joined the cast.
Mendes will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Mendes, Pippa Harris, Jayne-Ann Tenggren and Callum McDougall will produce. Filming begins on location in England and Scotland next week ahead of a release this Christmas.
