Sally Field is officially set to star opposite Daniel Day-Lewis in Steven Spielberg’s film about Abraham Lincoln. Field will play the iconic US president’s wife, Mary Todd Lincoln.
The story is based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” with a script by Tony Kushner and a focus on the last years of Lincoln’s life and the Civil War.
The casting of Field is surprising. The 64-year-old actress is considerably older than Mary Todd who was in her late 40’s when her husband was killed.
Shooting aims to kick off later this year for a release sometime late 2012.
