Saldanha Replaces Joe Cornish On “Rush”

“Rio” and “Ice Age” filmmaker Carlos Saldanha is in negotiations to make his live-action directing debut on the family-friendly sci-fi project “Rust” at 20th Century Fox and Genre Films.

If he signs, he would replace British filmmaker Joe Cornish (“Attack the Block”) who departed the project several weeks ago. No reason has been given for the departure.

Set after a devastating world war, the story follows a family of farmers whose lives change when Jet Jones, a young boy with a jetpack, crashes into their barn while trying to escape a giant decommissioned war robot.

Aline Brosh McKenna (“The Devil Wears Prada”) adapted the script from Royden Lepp’s 2011 graphic novel “Rust: Visitor in the Field”. Simon Kinberg is producing.
