Saldana Talks Her “Infinity War” Story Arc

Yesterday, filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo discussed spoilers related to their “Avengers: Infinity War” movie now that it’s out in general release. Today, actress Zoe Saldana has discussed her role as Gamora in the film.

Though many of the deaths seen within the new film are expected to be walked back by the next “Avengers” movie next year, one of the handful which is expected to be permanent is the loss of Gamora (Saldana) at the hands of her father Thanos (Josh Brolin). Speaking with The L.A. Times, Saldana revealed that she knew her death was coming for some time:

“I learned very early on. The producers called me and they told me. And of course, there’s a shock to your system. I’m so grateful, this run has been amazing, but you’re so not even ready for that. But then once some of the things were discussed, I understood that it just makes sense. In order for you to understand the degree of evil that lies within the core of Thanos, you have to circle in on his own children. So I completely understood. I loved being a part of this unforgettable journey.”

Whether Gamora will return in next year’s “Avengers” is unclear. The current “Guardians of the Galaxy” ‘team’ are expected to return for one last feature together which is said to be targeting a 2020 release.
