Mark Rylance is confirmed while Matthias Schoenaerts, Joseph Fiennes, Douglas Booth, Geza Rohrig and Lorenzo Gioielli have also been linked to have roles in Terrence Malick’s new film “The Last Planet”.
Malick is coming off raves for his WW2 film “A Hidden Life” and is already said to be deep into production on the new film, a Biblical story dealing with the life of Jesus Christ but in a uniquely Malick way.
Speaking at this year’s Deauville American Film Festival, Oscar-winner Rylance revealed his role and how Malick will be as a director:
“Terry wrote four versions of the character of Satan, and I thought I would play only one. But I heard I was going to play all four. One of them must have been a woman at some point, but it was when he asked me to grow a beard that I realized I wasn’t going to do it that way. I’m very happy to act for Terrence Malick, but I’m intrigued because I hear he talks to you all the time. And coming from the theater, I’m not used to the director yelling at me while I act or tell me what to do. But his films always intrigued me.”
Meanwhile Italian actor Alfonso Postiglione used his Instagram to reveal he’s joined the cast alongside Fiennes, Booth, and Lorenzo Gioielli with his caption suggesting a potential “film inside a film” with Fiennes and Booth playing a film director and writer.
