Ryan Phillippe Is Not Playing “Iron Fist”

A breathless rumor from earlier today has been shot down.

Actor Ryan Phillippe recently appeared on Howard Stern where he revealed that Marvel has been interesting in talking with him about a project: “Marvel is interested in talking about a Netflix series, possibly. The Daredevil series is great.”

This quickly led to speculation that Phillippe would take on the lead in the last remaining Marvel/Netflix series that has yet to cast its titular hero – “Iron Fist”.

The series will be the last of the Marvel/Netflix deal to be produced (aside from “The Defenders” mini-series) and has yet to score a leading man, a show runner or a time table for production or release – though the suggestion is that it’ll hit screens in late 2016.

So is Phillippe playing Danny Rand, aka the Immortal Iron Fist? The actor took to Twitter a few hours later to clarify his comments: “I have no real Marvel news other than an upcoming meeting. Sorry to disappoint fans thought there was more to it. there is no story there.”

In the comics, Danny is a master martial artist who grew up in an immortal city and uses his family’s wealth to help the poor in New York City. He’s also a consistent ally for Luke Cage.
