Ryan Gosling Up For “Lone Ranger”

Ryan Gosling is in talks to star as the titular “The Lone Ranger” for Disney Pictures reports The Wrap.

The hero’s origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto (Johnny Depp), who nurses him back to health.

The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice. The property began life as a 1930s radio show before becoming movie serials, TV shows, comic strips and comic books, toys, novels and more.

The production team behind the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films are set to re-team here – star Depp, director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Justin Haythe (“Revolutionary Road”) is penning the script. Gosling’s involvement will depend upon his schedule and commitment to shoot the “Logan’s Run” remake this Fall.
