Kurt Russell (“Furious 7,” “Tango and Cash”) and Dylan O’Brien (“Teen Wolf,” “The Maze Runner”) are in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and Gina Rodriguez in Peter Berg’s “Deepwater Horizon” at Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment.
The story deals with the 2010 BP oil-rig explosion in the Gulf Of Mexico that killed eleven people and gushed oil into the water for almost three months.
No word on Russell’s role, but O’Brien will play the rig’s youngest crewman Caleb Holloway who survives but is devastated to have lost a majority of his crew.
Berg helms from a script by Matthew Michael Carnahan. The film is currently slated for a September 2016 release.
