The sometimes controversial helmer David O. Russell (“Three Kings,” “I Heart Huckabees”) is in talks to direct the romantic comedy “The Grackle” which Matthew McConaughey is producing and starring in reports the trades.
McConaughey will play a barroom fighter in New Orleans who hires himself out for $250 a pop to settle disputes for people who can’t afford to hire a lawyer. How does he settle them? With his foul mouth and his fists.
The script is said to have raunchy “Wedding Crashers” style R-rated humor rather than the tone of the generally tame rom-coms McConaughey has previously starred in.
Mike Arnold and Chris Poole penned the script while Gus and Mark Gustawes will produce.
