Russell Crowe has been cast as Fox News founder Roger Ailes in Showtime’s upcoming limited series adaptation of Gabriel Sherman’s novel “The Loudest Voice in the Room”.
The eight-episode series will focus on the last decade of Ailes’ life, while also flashing back to key moments in his career including meeting with Richard Nixon, the political path he became known for, and the sexual harassment accusations that would lead to his downfall.
The series will be told through multiple viewpoints and aims to shed light on the psychology of Ailes and how the political process influenced him so much in his career. Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight”) and Jason Blum will produce the series with the first episode penned by McCarthy and Sherman.
The project is separate to the Jay Roach-directed feature film about Ailes that’s in the works at Annapurna and has Charlize Theron set to play Megyn Kelly.
