Russell Crowe is reportedly in negotiations to take on the role of Clark Kent’s Kryptonian father Jor-El in the Zack Snyder-directed “Man of Steel” for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Variety.
Producer Christopher Nolan had been seeking a major name for the role for some time, now he’s scored him with Crowe who was the final choice for a part both Sean Penn and Clive Owen had also been considered for.
Marlon Brando famously played the role in Richard Donner’s 1978 classic. Story details are being kept under wraps so its unknown to what extent Crowe’s role will be in the film.
The news comes on top of a busy day on the Superman front with both a casting call and a rumor of two other actors potentially joining the cast emerging.
The latter report indicates Crowe’s “Gladiator” co-star Connie Nielsen could be up for the role of his on-screen Kryptonian wife Lara, though this trade report makes no mention of Nielsen, saying only the filmmakers are “looking for a big name to play Superman’s biological mother”.
Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Michael Shannon are all set to star in the film which begins shooting in August.
