Russell Brand Gets His “Rock” Off

Russell Brand is circling the role of Lonnie in the upcoming film adaptation of Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” for New Line Cinema says Deadline.

The story centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, fall in love and try to stay together amid ’80s rock anthems. Adam Shankman (“Hairspray,” “The Pacifier”) will both direct and choreograph the feature.

The Lonnie character runs the ’80s rock club The Bourbon for owner Dennis, a role Alec Baldwin is circling. If cast, Brand and Baldwin would sing a cover of “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon.

Show creator Chris D’Arienzo has penned the adaptation which Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”) has polished. Carl Levin, Matt Weaver, Scott Prisand, Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Gibgot will produce. Filming aims to begin in May.
