EI-P, one half of hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, has been hired to compose the score for the Josh Trank-directed, Tom Hardy-led ageing Al Capone film “Fonzo”.
The story is set when former gangster Al Capone is 47 and, having spent nearly a decade in prison, has seen dementia rot his mind with harrowing memories of his violent past coming back to haunt him. Linda Cardellini, Jack Lowden, Matt Dillon, and Kyle MacLachlan also star.
Hardy has been posting a ton of photos from the set in recent weeks, including a shot of several people with El-P himself amongst them. Thus this announcement from BRON Studios comes as little shock.
In a statement, Trank says: “Since I was fourteen years old, El-P’s music has been one of the most important creative influences in my life. There’s literally no greater honor for me than to collaborate with him today and bear witness to this next stage of his artistic journey.”
Run the Jewels’ “Legend Has It” was attached to the first “Black Panther” trailer last year, while they scored a Grammy nomination for their song “Chase Me” on the “Baby Driver” soundtrack.
