Rufus Sewell Joins Ratner’s “Hercules”

Rufus Sewell (“The Illusionist,” “Dark City”) is set to play Autolycus alongside Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules in the Brett Ratner-directed “Hercules” film at MGM.

An adaptation of Steve Moore’s comic “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”, the story follows Hercules years after he carried out his twelve tasks and has turned his back on the Gods.

Now he and six friends have become mercenaries who’ve been hired by the King of Thrace to train his men into becoming an army every bit as ruthless as they are. Ryan Condal wrote the script.

In Greek mythology, Autolycus was the son of Hermes and the grandfather of both Odysseus and Jason. The character was memorably played as the egotistical ‘King of Thieves’ to delightfully hammy effect by “Burn Notice” and “Evil Dead” star Bruce Campbell in the 1990s TV series “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” and “Xena: Warrior Princess”.
