Producer Scott Rudin (“Captain Phillips”) has acquired the film rights to Pulitzer Prize winner Sheri Fink’s new non-fiction novel “Five Days At Memorial”. Rudin and Eli Bush will produce.
Fink’s book takes a look at the decisions doctors made at New Orleans’ Memorial Medical Center hospital around the time of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Overwhelmed by patients and without electrical power, the doctors were forced to make calculated decisions on which patients to save as anarchy and gunfire were heard outside the hospital.
The book focuses on an attempt to prosecute a doctor and two nurses for homicide after an investigation showed elevated levels of morphine and other drugs in 23 patients at the hospital.
