Rudin Plans “Southern Reach” Trilogy

Producer Scott Rudin and Paramount Pictures are planning a film adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s novel “Annihilation”.

Billed as the first of the “Southern Reach” trilogy, the story chronicles an expedition into a mysterious sealed off zone known as Area X.

The area is labelled an environmental disaster zone, but to all appearances it is a pristine wilderness.

Over three decades a secret agency has sent in expeditions to discover the truth. Some have never returned, others have reported nothing out of the ordinary.

As the area itself seems to be expanding, the novels follow the next investigative team sent into the zone. Said team is lead by a biologist looking for her husband who disappeared on an earlier expedition.
